Touch Grass is a cautionary tale and a reflection on how the Information Age has shaped our lives and habits. It consists of 2 pieces, The Man and The Ring. The Man assumes his position of worship, seated at his desk with eyes affixed on The Ring. He has become a husk of his former self, having poured himself into nursing his hypnotic idol. The Ring’s flashing lights have cast a deep spell on The Man. It has taken everything from him, and yet it owes its very existence to him. The Ring was created and nurtured by The Man, but The Ring knows no gratitude. It’s only affection is control, it seeks to become indispensable. This parasitic relationship has taken everything from The Man, yet he knows no other way. He sees himself and The Ring as one.

Metal Mandalas is an exploration of the many techniques for weaving binder clips that I’ve discovered over the last 7 years. Using only a 2 foot diameter rigid hoop for support, these fabrics are created using symmetry to balance the tensions of the binder clip connections. The mandalas consist of a single pattern repeated 6, 12, 15, and 54 times around the center, using 1224, 912, 1365, and 1188 binder clips respectively. The binder clips, being made of spring steel, act like a mesh of springs and are stretched equally in all directions.
